BASIC SKILLS ENHANCEMENT

The labor force has hundreds of good people who would make excellent employees if they were able to pass an employer’s basic skills examination. Many employers turn away otherwise well qualified individuals. A defined percentage of individuals who fail the employment exams by only a small margin would be able to pass the tests with some focused assistance in the areas of reading comprehension and quantitative skills.

There is a win/win solution to this dilemma – Verion Staffing’s Basic Skills Enhancement program. This course is designed for that 10-20 percent margin of applicants who are unable to meet the employment basic skills requirements. We are not educators; however, we have industry expertise and many years of experience screening and training individuals to work in the electronics, semiconductor and telecommunications industries. This is an "out of the box" hiring strategy and we call it our "apple polishing" program.

We deliver industry specific problems and situations to help the attendees relate to the industry in which they are applying for employment. Some people may need a quick refresher course in basic math problems, others may need to improve their reading skills. A dedicated effort among the client, the applicant and Verion will reap favorable benefits to all parties. The content and length of the basic skills enhancement program will obviously vary due to the diverse needs of the individuals in the program.

Certificates of Completion will be issued to each attendee who successfully completes our Basic Skills Enhancement program.

INTERACTIVE REALISTIC JOB PREVIEW

  • What are you doing to address employee turnover?
  • Why are your jobs unique?
  • How do you qualify prospective employees before you invest in the hiring process?
  • How would you like to cut your employee turnover by as much as 50%?

The Realistic Job Preview is an innovative, interactive process where an applicant "previews" a job and demonstrates their ability to meet baseline criteria before being hired. Applicants are exposed to the duties, responsibilities and performance expectations in an environment that closely simulates the actual working conditions. Applicants are provided job-specific training and are then tasked to interactively demonstrate their ability, willingness and interest to perform specific aspects of the job utilizing that training.

When the applicant meets the baseline requirements established for the Realistic Job Preview, they move forward into the application process. If they are unable to meet the criteria or decide they are not interested in this type of work, they are eliminated from employment consideration. The bottom line result is that employers only focus time, energy and resources on individuals who have demonstrated an interest in the job and who have proven their ability to learn the job – not on individuals who are not a good match.

The Realistic Job Preview is especially conducive to high-turnover jobs. For example, a job that requires individuals to stand for long periods of time or to work with their hands in a fast-paced environment may not appeal to everyone. By implementing the Realistic Job Preview, the potential employee can identify whether or not he would be willing to work in that environment. The Realistic Job Preview tackles hiring and training nightmares by identifying employees who understand your jobs and want to work for you, it reduces employee turnover, decreases hiring and training costs and increases productivity.

Each Realistic Job Preview is customized to each employer’s specifications and incorporates training, orientation and other employer or industry-specific topics directly related to the job being previewed. We have screened over 4,000 applicants for various high tech companies, some of which have experienced as much as a 50 percent reduction in employee turnover and training costs. How much time and money will you spend before you consider implementing a Realistic Job Preview with Verion Staffing?

RESPIRATORY PROTECTION AWARENESS

Occupational Safety Health Administration (OSHA) requires that employers have a written, standardized procedure for respirator selection, use and maintenance. Hazard assessment is included in the written plan. This program is supported by video, lecture and group interaction. An optional written exam is also available. Attendance will be documented and provided to you in support of your ISO 9000 requirements or to satisfy other quality initiatives.

SEXUAL HARASSMENT - WHAT IS IT?

Workplace sexual harassment can create serious repercussions to both employers and its employees. Organizations can incur profound costs in the form of damage to the company’s reputation, decreased employee morale, decreased productivity, employee turnover, not to mention potential legal fees.

An employer’s best defense against sexual harassment occurrence is employee education, training and an efficient internal system for handling sexual harassment claims. This course is designed to educate employees on what constitutes sexual harassment and how to recognize it in the workplace. This course is appropriate for all levels of management and support staff.

Training is supported by video, lecture and group interaction. An optional written exam is also available. Attendance will be documented and provided to you in support of your ISO 9000 requirements or to satisfy other quality initiatives.

SILICON WAFER HANDLING
(INTERACTIVE TRAINING)

This training program is an excellent way for newly hired wafer fab operators to gain an appreciation for the discipline, intricacy and cost associated with working with silicon wafers. Interactive wafer handing exercises are incorporated into the training to assess an employee’s manual dexterity, attention to detail, and ability to work within the structured and disciplined scope of handling wafers in a cleanroom environment. Students will become familiar with the terminology and will use state-of-the-art vacuum wands, silicon wafers, boats, carriers and wafer transfer systems during the exercises.

Proper wafer handling procedures and techniques will be demonstrated and explained; students will then demonstrate their willingness and ability to follow verbal instructions and handle wafers in a consistent, efficient manner. They will interact with each other practicing wafer handling techniques, transporting boats and carriers and monitoring each other’s activities for correct application.

Because not everyone is suited to this type of work, some semiconductor companies use this training activity as a pre-employment assessment tool. Other employers incorporate this activity into their new hire orientation.

SUCCESSFUL WORK ETHICS

Successful Work Ethics is a versatile educational tool for all employees – from the new hire to the veteran. The newly hired employee will have a thorough understanding of the basic work ethics expected on the job as well as appropriate business etiquette to ensure his/her success. Some veteran workers may never have attended a formal Successful Work Ethics class, therefore, segments of this information may be new material, or it can be used as a refresher course for experienced workers.

This program can easily be customized to incorporate your company’s orientation, policies and procedures. Training is supported by video, lecture and group interaction. An optional written exam is also available. Attendance will be documented and provided to you in support of your ISO 9000 requirements or to satisfy other quality initiatives.  Depending on the amount of client specific material incorporated into this course, the duration may last from one to eight hours.

WAFER FAB OPERATOR INTERACTIVE
REALISTIC JOB PREVIEW

Working in a wafer fab is very demanding and, due to the unique environment and expectations, can be intimidating to some people. Not everyone is suited to work within the structured and disciplined environment of a wafer fab. The Wafer Fab Operator Realistic Job Preview is an innovative process that introduces a prospective employee to the job duties and performance expectations associated with the position prior to being hired. A minimum of two days is dedicated to placing applicants in an environment representative of the working conditions. Employers have the opportunity to "preview" potential new hires against established baseline employment criteria and individuals have the opportunity to "preview" the job before making a commitment to accept employment.

Perspective employees will be provided an overview of the semiconductor industry to help them understand the importance of their job and how it relates to the overall process.  We provide training applicable to the job and then task and assess the individual’s willingness, ability and interest to perform the job duties in accordance with the training provided. They are also administered written exams on each training topic and must pass each test with a minimum grade of 80 percent. This interactive process also assesses the individual's ability to follow instructions, how they interact with fellow workers, and how they function in a team environment. For example, the training includes but is not limited to:

  • Hazard communication/safety awareness
  • Cleanroom protocol
  • Wafer handling per the client’s specific wafer handling procedures
  • Basic computer introduction
  • Wafer fab teaming exercises

Individuals are subsequently smocked up, placed in a simulated cleanroom to practice the training activities, interact with one another in a team environment, and are assessed in the following areas:

  • Demonstrate safety practices as identified in the hazard communication/safety awareness training
  • Demonstrate proper cleanroom behavior and protocol
  • Demonstrate the ability to handle wafers in accordance with the client’s specific wafer handling procedures. They will use six or eight inch wafers, state-of-the-art vacuum wands and wafer transfer systems
  • Demonstrate the ability to use the computer to access travelers and accurately enter performance data
  • Perform physical counts of wafers in designated boats
  • Break out into groups, assign team leaders and perform team player exercises
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions

The entire process allows a perspective employee to get a good glimpse of the job, expectations, structure and discipline enforced in a wafer fab. After a minimum of 12 hours of wafer fab environment exposure, individuals will have enough basic information about the job to make an informed decision whether this is the right career path for them. Only the individuals who prove themselves by meeting all the established baseline criteria and by demonstrating initiative will move forward and be considered as a potential applicant. Training is supported by video, lecture and group interaction. Assessment evaluations are available for each attendee.
